Scientists Find Drug To Banish Bad Memories

Posted on Jul 1st, 2007 by J.K. : Double 3 J.K.

Researchers have found they can use drugs to wipe away single, specific memories while leaving other memories intact.  [...]  The research suggests memories can be manipulated because they act as if made from glass, existing in a molten state as they are being created, before turning solid. When the memory is recalled, however, it becomes molten again and so can be altered before it once more resets.

Bush Commutes Libby Prison Sentence

Posted on Jul 2nd, 2007 by J.K. : Double 3 J.K.

It's official.  The rule of law is now a joke.  President Bush has spared Scooter Libby from a 2½-year prison term, issuing an order that commutes his sentence.  Libby will never have to go to jail.  Instead, he will still serve two years probation and owe $250,000 in fines.

Libby Story: Meet Victor Rita

Posted on Jul 5th, 2007 by J.K. : Double 3 J.K.

Exemplary service? -  George Bush filed a motion last year to uphold the 30-month sentence of Victor Rita, a 24-Year Marine Corps Veteran convicted on same crimes as Scooter Libby. -  Last month, the Supreme Court agreed with the Bush Justice Dept., ruling against Rita’s appeal for a reduced sentence based his exemplary military service.   [...]   Incidently,  Libby did not serve.

FOX NEWS: Universal Health Care Breeds Terrorists

Posted on Jul 6th, 2007 by J.K. : Double 3 J.K.

Today on Fox News ’s Your World With Neil Cavuto, National Review Online columnist Jerry Bowyer attacked Michael Moore’s movie SiCKO and its positive portrayal of the health care in countries such as Britain and France. He argued that national health care systems are breeding grounds for terrorists because they are “bureaucratic.”

Michael Moore Responds to CNN

Posted on Jul 10th, 2007 by J.K. : Double 3 J.K.

Did you catch Michael Moore's blistering interview with CNN and the "Reality Check"  segment that preceded it?   Although I admit my bias, I thought it was rather odd to see CNN run a video segment questioning Moore's "facts" when they had previously published this:

“…we found surprisingly few inaccuracies in the film. In fact, most pundits or health-care experts we spoke to spent more time on errors of omission rather than disputing the actual claims in the film.”   (cite)

As promised, Michael Moore followed up with a line-by-line response to the points raised in CNN's "Reality Check".  Like his response during the interview, it's blistering.

Which Hobby Best Suits Your Personality?

Posted on Jul 10th, 2007 by J.K. : Double 3 J.K.

Mine said "DISCOVERY"

Life is a journey, and you take the time to smell every single rose along the way. Your brain is a sponge, soaking up every detail of life around you, and you constantly look inward to figure out the ties that bind you to the universe. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but it's what makes you tick. You might like hobbies like participating in archaeological digs, botany, assembling models, playing the stock market, meditation or even parapsychology.

'No Sun link' to climate change

Posted on Jul 11th, 2007 by J.K. : Double 3 J.K.

A new scientific study concludes that changes in the Sun's output cannot be causing modern-day climate change. It shows that for the last 20 years, the Sun's output has declined, yet temperatures on Earth have risen. It also shows that modern temperatures are not determined by the Sun's effect on cosmic rays, as has been claimed.

Dr Lockwood initiated the study partially in response to the TV documentary The Great Global Warming Swindle, broadcast on Britain's Channel Four earlier this year, which featured the cosmic ray hypothesis.

"All the graphs they showed stopped in about 1980, and I knew why, because things diverged after that," he told the BBC News website.

"You can't just ignore bits of data that you don't like," he said.

$282 Million Stolen From Bank In Baghdad

Cindy Sheehan Street Debate

Cindy Sheehan Street Debate

I was thinking of taking a break from the news today.    The thought of posting some music or even some poetry sounded like a refreshing break.   And then I ran into this amusing bit.

Chris Vucovich is 31 year old, Alabama-born neo-con.    He graduated from Troy State University in 1999, and now works for his father's financial advisory firm in Montgomery.  As you might guess, he has the FOX talking points nailed flat.

On this particular day, Chris chose to confront Cindy Sheehan.  In the process, he also engaged several Vietnam veterans who, I assume, are members of Veterans for Peace.   Chris is very dedicated to our operations in Iraq, and he is he's ready and willing to serve in our military.  The only problem, as it turns out, is his age.  ("They won't have me!")   -  Chris seems a little shocked to learn that the military is short handed and, as a result, asking for new recruits up to the age of 41!

If you'd like to help Chris sign up, here's his father's website.      According to Google, here are some military recruiting offices near Montgomery.   :P

CNN's Response to Michael Moore

Posted on Jul 15th, 2007 by J.K. : Double 3 J.K.

We may have to pull these two apart.   :P

I experienced a small shock  when I saw this.    The first sentence of the second paragraph lets you know there will be no apology.  The length of the response itself can be  intimidating.

Before diving in, I decided to take advantage of the eyes that had gone before me by reading a few of the highest rated comments on Digg.  As it turns out, things aren't as bad as I had feared.   In fact, in the case of CNN's "expert" it appears that CNN may have dug themselves into an even deeper hole while discussing their expert's impartiality on Larry King Live.   (p.s. still reading)

Neocons On A Cruise

Have you ever wondered what conservatives say when they think we aren't listening? -  Today, we have the amazing story of a reporter who booked a cruise with five hundred, wing-nut readers of the National Review.  Here, the Iraq war is "an amazing success". Global warming is not happening.  The Muslims are out-breeding us, and the solitary black person claims, "If the Ku Klux Klan supports equal rights, then God bless them."

Cindy Sheehan Plays Hardball

Posted on Jul 18th, 2007 by J.K. : Double 3 J.K.

July 17, 2007

It must have been the "old" Cindy Sheehan that "retired" from the peace movement.  This "new" Cindy looks, sounds and comes across generally as far more formidable than the Cindy we have sometimes seen in the past.

If you'd like to see if the peace walk is coming to your city, you'll find the walk route here.   On a personal note, I also have some photos from my visit to Camp Casey last summer.
