A gallery of the breathtaking Tiger's Nest monastery in Bhutan.  A must-see, if you're not already familiar with it.  It hangs on a cliff at 3,120 meters (10,200 feet), some 700 meters (2,300 feet) above the bottom of Paro valley.

Speaking of books, I finally broke down and ordered Dennis Waite's new book on the history
and philosophy of Advaita.  It's a hefty read (some 600 pages), but given that his previous book
is already among my favorites I think that I'll enjoy it.   For those who have an interest in learning some basic Sanskrit, let me also mention that during each week of 2007 Dennis Waite will be introducing and explaining one new Sanskrit term on his website.   He promises that the
definitions will be short and sweet—no more than a few paragraphs.

Did you watch the Paula Zahn piece to the end? -  The conversation resulted in a fairly large online protest.  Although the beginning of the segment could be described as tolerant of 'non-theists' (in this context I prefer that term), the following roundtable was not much more than a free-for-all hit piece. Intrestingly, while the group had gathered to answer questions about atheism, not one atheist (e.g. non-theist) had been invited to attend. - In response to viewer protests Richard Dawkins is now scheduled to be in interviewed on Monday.

Universal Health Care

Posted on Feb 11th, 2007 by J.K. : Double 3 J.K.

"I'm for universal health care because I believe every life on earth is precious, because I think  each of us contribute to the shared experience in our own unique way, and because I consider caring for the sick an ethical duty we should all bear jointly and gladly in exchange for the benefit of living in a moral, prosperous, and human society.  -  In addition, I recognize that our current system of health care delivery is economically unsound—leading to non productivity, the class of the debtor-sick, needless physical suffering, and waste. I believe the first step should be to provide preventative and maintenance care to everyone with prescription coverage being a mandatory ingredient."

Richard Dawkins on CNN

Posted on Feb 13th, 2007 by J.K. : Double 3 J.K.

Follow-Up:    My clues post from 02/10 noted a Paula Zahn interview and discussion on atheism that ironically  included no atheists.   The interview caused something of an uproar on Digg, and I promised to note the subsequent interview of Richard Dawkins when it became available.  After
the jump, you'll find the interview and a second discussion embedded in a single post.
